Guwahati Municipal Corporation Launches Idol Clean-Up at Lachit Ghat Post-Kali Puja
Guwahati, Assam: In a dedicated clean-up operation, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) initiated the removal of hundreds of discarded idols from Lachit Ghat this morning.
The ghat had become overwhelmed with idols left by devotees following the recent Kali Puja festivities.
Responding to growing public concerns about the unsightly accumulation of idols, the GMC deployed JCB machines to efficiently lift and transport the discarded items. The removed idols were then transferred to a designated dumping site in Bargaon, located within the Kamrup district.
A team of GMC workers was on-site early this morning to supervise the clean-up efforts, ensuring the area was restored to its original condition.
This prompt action by the GMC comes in response to news reports highlighting the litter at Lachit Ghat, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to maintaining cleanliness and environmental standards in the city.
The clean-up operation underscores the importance of public cooperation and environmental responsibility during festive celebrations, as authorities strive to ensure that religious observances do not adversely impact the urban landscape.
