Nagaland to Launch “Sport for Voters” Initiative to Engage Youth in Electoral Process

Kohima, Nagaland: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland is set to launch an innovative outreach program aimed at involving the youth in the democratic process. Under the Special Summary Revision (SSR) initiative for 2024-2025, the program, themed “Sport for Voters,” will take place on November 4th and 5th, 2024, at the local ground in Mon, in partnership with the Nagaland Sports Association.

Pakon Phom, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and SVEEP Nodal Officer for Mon, has urged all Higher Secondary Schools and colleges in the region to participate in this exciting event, which targets students aged 17 and above to promote their engagement with the electoral process. The activities will commence at 9:30 AM each day, with participants encouraged to wear sports attire.

The initiative will provide students with a unique opportunity to register for the electoral roll on-site. To facilitate first-time registration, participants are required to bring essential documents, including two recent color passport-sized photographs, a photocopy of an ID card for identification, and xerox copies of both an age proof certificate and address proof.

This outreach program not only aims to promote sports but also to underscore the significance of voting and civic responsibility among the youth of Nagaland. By merging sports with electoral awareness, the initiative aspires to foster a more engaged and informed electorate, paving the way for active participation in the democratic process.
