Assam Government Boosts Raas Festival with Additional Funding for Organizers

Majuli, Assam: In a significant move to enhance the cultural vibrancy of the Raas Festival, the Assam government has announced an additional grant of ₹50,000 to each Raas Committee involved in the celebrated event.

This funding initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to support and invigorate the festival, which plays a pivotal role in showcasing the region’s rich traditions.

The Raas Festival, renowned for its vibrant portrayal of Lord Krishna’s stories, is one of Assam’s most cherished cultural celebrations. Annually held on Majuli, the world’s largest river island, the festival draws thousands of devotees, tourists, and cultural aficionados eager to immerse themselves in its unique blend of art, music, and devotion.

This latest allocation of ₹50,000 adds to a previously announced funding of ₹25,000, effectively tripling the initial commitment to support the festival. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the government’s dedication to preserving and promoting the state’s cultural heritage, stating, “We aim to sustain and elevate festivals like the Raas Festival that resonate deeply with our cultural identity,” in a message shared on X.

With this additional funding, each Raas Committee is expected to enhance the preparations necessary for the festival, including the decoration of venues, costumes, and performances. Organizers and local artisans will have greater resources to ensure that each celebration not only captivates attendees but also honors the historical and cultural significance of Assam’s traditions.

The Assam government’s commitment to the Raas Festival underscores its potential to boost the local economy and reaffirm Majuli’s status as a cultural hub, fostering a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Assamese heritage.
