Manipur Police Arrest PREPAK-PRO Member Amid Heightened Security Measures

Bishnupur, Manipur — On November 2, Manipur Police arrested Nongmaithem Gunamani, a 32-year-old member of the insurgent group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-PRO), during a raid in the Kumbi area of Bishnupur District.

Gunamani, also known by his alias Allu, is allegedly involved in a series of extortion activities in the region. During the arrest, authorities seized critical items, including a 36-type hand grenade, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone.

In response to increasing security concerns, police and security forces have stepped up joint operations across Manipur’s vulnerable hill and valley districts. The intensified operations include area control measures and extensive search missions aimed at countering insurgency threats and reinforcing regional stability.

Alongside these efforts, authorities ensured the secure passage of 309 vehicles carrying essential supplies on National Highways 37 and 2. Security forces closely monitored key stretches along these routes, deploying convoys to prevent disruptions and guarantee the uninterrupted movement of goods amid heightened security.

To further enhance safety, Manipur Police established 110 checkpoints, or ‘Nakas,’ across multiple districts, covering both hill and valley areas. As part of these security operations, nine individuals were detained for alleged violations. This expanded security network reflects the state’s commitment to safeguarding its residents and maintaining order in the face of ongoing tensions.
