Imphal— Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya underscored the need for swift action in implementing India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 during a crucial meeting with vice-chancellors of major universities in Manipur on Saturday.
Held at the Raj Bhavan, the meeting gathered university leaders to discuss progress and challenges in adopting the NEP’s transformative framework across the state’s educational institutions.
Governor Acharya urged universities to make learning “more experimental and enjoyable” while retaining high academic standards, emphasizing that education should cultivate creativity and critical thinking. He described universities as “catalysts” for NEP implementation, promising support to overcome any obstacles.
The conference included leadership from Manipur University, Dhanamanjuri University, Manipur Technical University, and Manipur University of Culture, with discussions focused on addressing staffing gaps, enhancing faculty development, and meeting infrastructure needs. Vice-chancellors N Lokendra Singh, H Gyan Prakash, and Paonam Gunindro Singh contributed insights on the logistical and institutional demands involved in the NEP rollout.
The NEP 2020 aims to reshape India’s educational landscape by promoting flexible, inquiry-driven, and interdisciplinary learning experiences. As the governor of both Assam and Manipur, Acharya highlighted the policy’s significance for advancing higher education in the northeastern states, encouraging institutions to embrace reforms that enhance students’ academic and personal growth.
This meeting marks a step forward in aligning Manipur’s education system with NEP goals, with university leaders expressing commitment to working towards a more adaptive and future-ready academic environment.
