Kohima — The Nagaland State Level Education Committee (SLEC) has announced the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across all government and private schools beginning in the next academic year.
This significant step was confirmed in a recent SLEC meeting chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who also oversees School Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
The School Education Department issued meeting minutes on November 1, highlighting key structural changes to strengthen the state’s educational framework. These changes involve the upgrading, downgrading, and amalgamation of government schools, a move intended to streamline resources and raise academic standards across Nagaland.
Additionally, the committee has set new regulatory requirements for private schools, mandating that they seek prior approval before opening to ensure alignment with NEP 2020’s quality benchmarks.
Chief Minister Rio emphasized the NEP’s potential to elevate educational quality and accessibility statewide. “These reforms mark a critical shift toward an educational system that is inclusive, quality-driven, and prepared to meet the needs of tomorrow’s learners,” he stated, emphasizing the policy’s holistic approach to learning, skill development, and innovation.
