Assam: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Visits at Jorhat fire site, Calls for Compensation and Improved Town Planning

Jorhat, Assam — A devastating fire that broke out on November 2 in Assam’s Jorhat district tragically claimed one life and destroyed three shops, leaving the local community in shock.

In the aftermath, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi visited the site to meet with affected individuals and assess the damage, emphasizing the need for compensation and urging more scientific town planning to prevent future incidents.

The early morning blaze prompted a rapid response from local authorities, with fire engines arriving swiftly to contain the flames and prevent further destruction. However, despite these efforts, significant property loss and the tragic death of one individual cast a somber shadow over the community.

MP Gogoi took to social media platform X to express his condolences and commitment to supporting those affected. “The unfortunate fire incident in Jorhat yesterday has led to the destruction of property and loss of life of a person. I visited the area and met with those affected by the tragic incident,” he shared. He emphasized the necessity of compensating victims promptly and encouraged the local administration to act swiftly.

Additionally, Gogoi highlighted the importance of adopting scientific, data-driven town planning measures to mitigate fire risks in densely populated areas. “I urge the government to consciously rely on scientific and data-driven town planning to avoid such tragic incidents in the future,” he stated.

The incident has sparked discussions around urban safety in Assam, with community leaders and officials acknowledging the need for better infrastructure and proactive measures to enhance public safety.
