Meghalaya Police and BSF Seize Counterfeit Currency, Apprehend Suspect in Joint Operation
South West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya — In a decisive joint operation, Meghalaya Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) seized counterfeit Indian currency worth ₹70,000 near the international border in South West Khasi Hills district.
An Indian woman has been apprehended in connection with the seized fake currency, which was discovered in ₹500 notes.
Based on specific intelligence, a combined team from the 193rd Battalion of the BSF and state police launched a search operation on November 2, targeting a residence in the Gumaghat area.
Authorities recovered the counterfeit currency, which has since been handed over to Ranikor Police Station along with the apprehended woman for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This operation follows another recent success on November 1, when BSF Meghalaya and local police detained two Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross illegally into Indian territory. Acting on intelligence regarding illegal crossings in East Khasi Hills, the BSF’s 4th Battalion alerted Pynursla Police Station, leading to the interception of a Wagon R vehicle on NH 40 near Pynursla. The vehicle, bearing registration number ML-05 AC 1946, was halted, and the individuals were taken into custody.
The Meghalaya Police and BSF have intensified vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border, focusing on curbing cross-border criminal activity. These recent joint operations underscore the commitment of local authorities and border forces to maintaining security and thwarting illegal activities in the region.
