Imphal: In a recent development, Manipur Police apprehended 30-year-old Khullem Sanjeep, also known as Bhim, a suspected member of the AT group, in connection with an assault case that took place on October 31, 2024.
The arrest follows an investigation into the attack on two individuals from Senapati, which occurred in the early morning hours in Lamsang. Sanjeep, son of the late Kh. Tomba from Naoremthong DC Road, has been remanded to police custody for further questioning as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding the incident.
In response to this assault and rising security concerns across Manipur, extensive search and area domination operations have been launched. Security forces are focusing their efforts on vulnerable zones in both hill and valley districts, aiming to reinforce stability amid heightened inter-community tensions. These operations are intended to deter any potential unrest and secure high-risk areas.
As part of these security measures, the authorities have intensified their presence along National Highway-2 (NH-2), a vital lifeline for Manipur’s supply of essential goods. To ensure uninterrupted movement, a convoy of 48 vehicles carrying essential supplies was recently escorted along this route, with security personnel deployed at vulnerable points to safeguard both goods and personnel.
Moreover, a network of 110 checkpoints, known locally as “Nakas,” has been established across Manipur’s districts, covering both hilly and lowland areas. These checkpoints are part of the government’s effort to prevent unauthorized activities and uphold public order. During recent operations, seven individuals were detained across various districts for violating state regulations, underscoring the police’s commitment to strict enforcement.
The Manipur government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe and smooth transport of essential supplies across the state. By deploying these protective measures and maintaining a robust security presence in sensitive areas, the administration is striving to preserve public order and support the well-being of its residents amid ongoing challenges.
