Tripura Police Seize Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 3.75 Crore, Arrest One in Panisagar

Panisagar, Tripura: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 3.75 crore during a late-night operation in the North District’s Panisagar area. One individual was arrested in connection with the incident.

Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, police intercepted a white Maruti Suzuki S-Cross SUV (bearing registration number AS 01 BY 0198) approaching from Assam. Acting on intelligence, officers stationed at the Panisagar checkpoint conducted a search of the vehicle. In the presence of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Panisagar, an Executive Magistrate, and independent witnesses, law enforcement discovered 750 small packets containing a total of 150,000 Yaba tablets, a narcotic substance popular in the region.

“The approximate market value of the seized tablets is estimated to be around Rs 3.75 crore,” a police official stated. The driver was detained on the spot, and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Panisagar Police Station.

The interception marks another effort by Tripura Police to curtail the smuggling of illicit substances, particularly Yaba, which has been a rising concern in the region due to its popularity and cross-border trafficking routes. Further investigations are underway to trace the origins and intended destination of the consignment.
