Assam Police Seize Heroin and Yaba Tablets Worth ₹7 Crore in Major Drug Busts

Cachar, Assam – In a significant operation, police in Assam’s Cachar district seized 375 grams of suspected heroin and 20,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value of around ₹7 crore.

The operation took place in the Lailapur area on November 3, leading to the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a vehicle.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Cachar district police executed a special operation that resulted in the recovery of 30 soap boxes containing the illicit drugs. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts of the police, stating on his official X account, “Acting on credible intelligence, @cacharpolice conducted a special operation today at Lailapur, leading to the seizing of a vehicle and the apprehension of an individual. The search resulted in the recovery of 30 soap boxes containing approx. 375 grams of suspected heroin, alongside 20,000 YABA tablets. The estimated value of the seized contraband is approximately ₹7 crore. Kudos to @assampolice for their continued dedication!”

In a related incident, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) conducted another operation in the Dakhingaon area under the jurisdiction of Dispur police station, recovering approximately 118.45 grams of heroin packaged in 10 soap boxes. The STF arrested two individuals, identified as 32-year-old Mafizur Rahman and 23-year-old Nur Hussain. The team also confiscated a two-wheeler and two mobile phones from their possession.

CPRO of Assam Police, Pranab Jyoti Goswami, stated, “The STF team apprehended two persons and necessary formalities are being done.” These operations reflect the ongoing efforts by Assam Police to combat drug trafficking and enhance public safety across the state.
