Manipur: Kuki-Zo Community Marks 18th Remembrance Day, Honoring Lives Lost in the Struggle for Justice
Kangpokpi, Manipur — On November 2, the Kuki-Zo community observed the 18th Remembrance Day at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Phaijang, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, paying tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in the ongoing fight for justice and recognition.
The commemoration drew Kuki-Zo leaders, civil society representatives, and members of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), who gathered in solidarity to remember the departed with prayers, floral tributes, and a gun salute.
This year’s ceremony, marked by heartfelt reflections, emphasized the community’s resilience amid ongoing challenges.
Speaking at the event, CoTU General Secretary Lamminlun Singsit underscored the significance of Remembrance Day, describing it as a time to honor the sacrifices made and a reminder of the community’s unyielding quest for justice. “The Kuki-Zo people stand united in remembrance today,” Singsit stated. “This day reflects our pain but also our collective resolve to continue our peaceful struggle for justice and recognition.” He noted that Remembrance Day stands as a testament to the sacrifices of many, inspiring hope for a future that safeguards the community’s rights and identity.
The commemoration, attended by various civil society organizations, CoTU executives, and departmental leaders, created a solemn atmosphere of unity and reflection. Attendees offered condolences and prayers for the departed, reinforcing a deep sense of solidarity within the Kuki-Zo community.
In a gesture of respect, local businesses remained closed throughout the day. Unlike previous years, however, the observance did not involve any disruptions to traffic along the National Highway, as community members chose a peaceful and quiet remembrance, honoring the fallen with dignity.
