Assam CM Revises Flyover Plan to Preserve Trees Amid Public Concern
Guwahati— In response to rising public concern over tree-cutting for a new flyover project, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today that the construction plan has been revised to prevent the felling of trees along the proposed route.
Speaking to the media, Sarma affirmed his commitment to environmental preservation. “I have given my word to not cut the trees,” he stated, underscoring the government’s dedication to protecting the environment while moving forward with infrastructure projects.
The proposed flyover has ignited public debate, with residents split between supporting environmental protection and prioritizing rapid development. Sarma acknowledged the public’s divided stance: “There are two sections of people: those who want to protect trees and those who don’t want this flyover completed before the elections.” He further suggested that some opposition to the project may be politically motivated.
Despite these differences, Sarma reassured citizens that the revised plan honors both development goals and environmental sensitivity. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government values public sentiment, and the revised design reflects this balanced approach, aiming to support sustainable growth in the region.
