Manipur: Viral Video of Chick Theft in Phubala Confirmed as Hoax; Security Forces Ramp Up Operations in state

Imphal — A viral video that appeared to show the assault and theft of 500 chicks in Phubala has been debunked as a hoax by Manipur Police, sparking conversations on social media about misinformation and its impact.

The footage showed individuals dressed in black forcibly seizing the chicks, raising public alarm. However, following an investigation, authorities revealed the incident to be fabricated.

Police have detained two individuals, identified as Iphamayum Ramijuddin (30) and Heibokmayum Thoiba (29) from Kwakta, Ward No. 8, for orchestrating the staged video. According to officials, Ramijuddin admitted to creating the false scenario, while Thoiba recorded and circulated the footage online. Legal proceedings against both men are underway, with police issuing a caution against spreading unverified content that could inflame public concerns.

In response to the hoax and ongoing security challenges, Manipur’s security forces intensified patrols and search operations across vulnerable areas in the state on November 4. These operations led to the discovery of a substantial arms cache in Tengnoupal District’s Samukom area, a region recently marked by instability. Seized items included pistols, multiple rounds of live ammunition, and explosive devices, such as nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and several grenades. Authorities are now investigating the origins and intended targets for these recovered weapons, underscoring the persistent security threats faced in Manipur.

To support safety and the movement of essential goods, security forces provided escort convoys for 153 vehicles traveling along the NH-37 and NH-2 highways. These measures aim to ensure reliable access to supplies in affected areas, safeguarding supply chains amid current tensions.

Further reinforcing security, law enforcement established 111 checkpoints throughout various hill and valley districts. Six individuals were detained at these checkpoints on suspicion of violating local laws, demonstrating an ongoing effort to stabilize the region through enhanced police presence and control.

The crackdown on misinformation and bolstered security initiatives highlight the authorities’ multifaceted approach to maintaining order in Manipur, addressing both digital misinformation and physical threats to regional stability.
