Assam: In a significant breakthrough, the Assam Police arrested four individuals involved in a planned rhino poaching operation at the Orang National Park.
Acting on reliable intelligence, the Darrang police intercepted the suspects on the night of November 5, seizing a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and equipment linked to the illegal activity.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Nur Hussain, Abul Hussain, Jaffar Ali, and Nur Islam. According to authorities, the suspects were planning to enter Orang National Park, a protected area known for its rhino population, to carry out poaching.
The police confiscated a .303 rifle with ammunition, three mobile phones, five motorcycles, and camping gear from the arrested poachers. Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh commended the efforts of the Darrang Police, praising their swift action in preventing the crime.
Taking to his official social media account, DGP Singh congratulated the force, stating, “They were planning to go inside the park for poaching. Well done @Darrang_Police and units that provided the input.” The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Assam Police to combat wildlife crime and protect the state’s endangered species, particularly the one-horned rhinoceros.
This successful operation comes as part of continued efforts by the Assam government to curb wildlife poaching and ensure the safety of animals in national parks and wildlife reserves across the state.
