Man Allegedly Murders Son, Later Found Dead in Apparent Suicide in Gohpur, Assam

In a deeply shocking incident in Gohpur’s Solengi Guri village, Assam, a man allegedly killed his young son and was later found dead in what police suspect to be a suicide. The accused, identified as Mriganka Saikia, reportedly strangled his 7-year-old son on Thursday evening before fleeing the scene.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 7 p.m. when Saikia allegedly smothered his son using a blanket while the child was asleep. His wife was not present at the time, which police believe Saikia exploited to carry out the act.

Following the crime, Saikia fled the home on a scooter, sparking an immediate police search. By Friday morning, his body was found hanging from the roof of a house in the nearby village of Borigaon, owned by a resident named Nanda Biswas. Police have suggested suicide as the likely cause of Saikia’s death, though investigations continue to probe the motive behind the tragic events.

The dual tragedy has left the local community in shock and mourning, with police gathering statements and searching for further clues to understand the reasons behind the incident.
