Assam: Karimganj Hospital Faces Critical Infrastructure Challenges, Affecting Patient Care and Staff Efficiency

Assam: Karimganj’s hospital, reconstructed less than four years ago, is now grappling with severe infrastructure issues that hinder its daily operations and compromise patient safety.

Among the pressing concerns is the hospital’s X-ray department, where a deteriorating ceiling leaks during the monsoon season, disrupting services and raising safety alarms for both patients and staff.

The sonography department faces equally troubling issues, as a malfunctioning air conditioning unit has forced staff to keep doors open during procedures. This workaround, necessitated by prolonged neglect, not only affects the quality of service but also compromises patient privacy—a fundamental standard in healthcare.

The challenges are further compounded by the fact that the air conditioning system in the X-ray department has been out of order for two years. This lack of climate control has led to substantial discomfort and operational inefficiencies, making it difficult for medical staff to maintain optimal care standards.

Shubhajit Chakraborty, General Secretary of NUSI, Assam Pradesh, has highlighted these issues to health department officials and the Additional Deputy Commissioner responsible for healthcare services. His appeal underscores the urgent need for immediate action to repair these essential facilities and restore the hospital’s ability to deliver reliable and safe patient care.
