Assam Woman Fatally Stabbed in Kerala; Accused Attempts Suicide, Undergoes Treatment
Perumbavoor, Kerala – A 27-year-old woman from Assam was tragically stabbed to death in broad daylight in the Mudikkal area of Perumbavoor, Kerala.
The incident, which occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, involved Fareeda Beegum, who was allegedly attacked by 23-year-old Mahar Ali, also from Assam.
Police reported that after the assault, Ali attempted to end his life by stabbing himself and consuming poison.
He is currently receiving treatment at a government medical college and will be taken into custody once his condition stabilizes.
Eyewitnesses described a disturbing scene, where Ali was found sitting beside Beegum’s body, holding the blood-stained knife. Both were rushed to the hospital, where Beegum was declared dead, while Ali was later transferred to the medical college for further treatment. Police have confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening.
According to authorities, Beegum had been married, but her husband passed away two years ago. She and Ali had been in a relationship and were living together.
However, tensions arose between them during a recent trip to Assam, and Beegum subsequently returned alone to Kerala. Ali arrived back in Perumbavoor just two days before the attack, and police suspect that Sunday’s incident may have been a continuation of their previous quarrel.
While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, investigators are exploring the possibility that lingering issues from their dispute in Assam contributed to the violent encounter.
Ali has been charged under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder, and police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
