Prominent West Pendam Leaders Join BJP Amid Growing Party Influence in Sikkim
Gangtok: In a notable boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Sikkim, prominent figures from West Pendam—Madan Kumar Dhungel, social worker JB Khaling, and Padma Subba from Chujachen—formally joined the party on November 11.
They were welcomed into the BJP by State President Dr. D.R. Thapa, along with Pakyong District President Prem Chettri Khatiwara and other key party executives.
This recruitment is part of the BJP’s nationwide membership drive, which has attracted influential political leaders and community figures across the state to join the party. With Sikkim’s state assembly elections approaching, BJP leaders anticipate that more local leaders will align with the party’s ideology and objectives.
The BJP recently announced it would not contest the upcoming Sikkim Legislative Assembly bye-election scheduled for November 13. State President Dr. Thapa stated that the decision, made in consultation with the party’s central leadership, reflects a strategic choice to concentrate resources and efforts on the larger goal of strengthening the party ahead of the full assembly elections.
This influx of new members highlights BJP’s growing footprint in Sikkim as it prepares for the next major electoral cycle, leveraging local support and expanding its reach across the state.
