Arunachal Literature Festival 2024 Kicks Off with Focus on Diverse Voices and Creative Dialogue
Itanagar: The Arunachal Literature Festival 2024 launched today at Itanagar’s DK Convention Center, drawing writers, poets, and literary enthusiasts for a three-day celebration of storytelling and cultural exchange.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, welcoming guests via social media, described the festival as a place “where minds and muses meet,” underscoring its role in enriching the region’s cultural landscape.
The event was inaugurated by Governor KT Parnaik, with acclaimed poet and scholar Hoshang Merchant headlining the festival. Merchant, celebrated for his editorial work on Yaraana: Gay Writing from India, has long been a powerful advocate for LGBTQ+ perspectives in Indian literature. His participation highlights the festival’s focus on elevating underrepresented voices, marking a milestone for Northeastern literary events.
In his social media message, Khandu emphasized the festival’s role in fostering creative dialogue, noting, “Stories unfold, and writers and readers come together in the spirit of wonder.” Merchant’s scheduled sessions explore themes of identity and self-expression, offering attendees the chance to engage directly with a prominent figure in Indian poetry and literary critique.
Throughout November 13-15, the festival will feature readings, interactive discussions, and workshops designed to engage participants in a variety of genres and topics. Attendees can look forward to an inclusive programme that brings together established voices and emerging talents from across India.
“This festival offers a wonderful opportunity to explore ideas and engage in creative conversations,” Khandu added, reinforcing the festival’s significance as a cornerstone of Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural calendar. Building on the success of past editions, this year’s festival has broadened its scope, welcoming narratives that challenge conventions while celebrating the diversity of India’s literary heritage.
