Assam: Tensions Escalate in Samaguri as MP Rakibul Hussain’s Convoy Attacked; Violence Reported at Polling Stations

Samaguri, Assam – Tensions flared in Assam’s Samaguri constituency as Congress MP Rakibul Hussain’s convoy came under attack today, with protesters chasing the vehicles and raising slogans against the Lok Sabha member.

In the midst of the disturbance, a journalist’s vehicle following the convoy was also targeted in Salpara. Initial reports indicate that stones were hurled at the journalist’s car, causing significant damage.

Simultaneously, reports of unrest emerged from polling stations No. 89 and 90, where BJP workers were accused by Congress supporters of instigating violence and clashing with both Congress members and police officers stationed to maintain order. Local officials have called for calm as they investigate the alleged assaults at these polling locations.

In a separate incident at polling booth No. 53 in Bajiyagaon, a pregnant woman sustained critical injuries after being caught in a crowd surge. While waiting to cast her vote, she was jostled by the crowd’s sudden movement and was rushed to Nagaon Medical College Hospital, where her condition remains serious.

In response to the escalating tension, authorities have intensified security measures and deployed additional forces to stabilize the situation and ensure voter safety. Officials confirmed ongoing investigations into each of these incidents, aiming to prevent further disruptions and maintain peace as the election proceeds in the constituency.
