Supreme Court Defers Hearing on PIL Seeking Probe into Contracts Awarded to CM Pema Khandu’s Family
Arunachal: The Supreme Court on Thursday deferred the hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a CBI or SIT probe into the awarding of government contracts for public works to firms owned by the family members of Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The matter has been rescheduled for the second week of February 2024.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar was hearing the petition filed by two NGOs, Save Mon Region Federation and Voluntary Arunachal Senaa. Lawyer Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioners, argued that government contracts were being awarded disproportionately to companies linked to the Chief Minister’s close family members.
At the beginning of the hearing, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna noted that he had not yet reviewed the response filed by the respondents, which included the state government and the Centre. The court has now set the matter for a detailed hearing in February.
