IYC Announces Groundbreaking Leadership Elections in Meghalaya, Empowering Youth Participation in Politics
Shillong: In a major step towards empowering the youth, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on November 14 unveiled plans to hold internal membership and organizational elections in Meghalaya at the assembly, district, and state levels.
This significant move marks a new era in political leadership within the Indian National Congress (INC), enabling young leaders to be selected based on their support within the organization.
The IYC’s decision aligns with the vision of All India Congress Committee President Rahul Gandhi, aiming to provide youth across the nation with a direct voice in political leadership. “This is the dawn of a new era in Indian politics,” said Uday Bhanu Chib, National President of the IYC. “For the first time, young political leaders in our party will be directly elected by the members themselves. This is a historic step, marking a true form of democracy in action.”
The election process will begin with the Membership phase, where young individuals eager to join the IYC can register through the newly launched “With IYC” mobile application. In addition, potential candidates will have the opportunity to enroll supporters as active members. The membership registration is now open, and the nomination period for the elections will run from November 16 to 20.
To ensure transparency and fairness, the IYC has deployed Zonal and State Returning Officers to oversee the election process. The IYC’s commitment to inclusivity is evident, with special provisions made to encourage the participation of women and marginalized communities. “This initiative has been designed to give every youth, irrespective of their background, the opportunity to participate in and shape the future of our nation,” Chib emphasized.
The IYC will also conduct orientation and training sessions to help potential candidates navigate the election process and prepare for leadership roles. These sessions will cover everything from nominations to how to rise through the ranks within the IYC and the Congress Party.
With this reform, the IYC is determined to ensure that the election process is carried out with the highest standards of democracy. The party is calling on all passionate youth who are committed to public service to join this historic movement and help shape the future of Indian politics.
