CBI Intensifies Probe into Unregulated Deposit Schemes in Assam
Assam: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stepped up its investigation into 41 cases related to unregulated deposit schemes in Assam.
In a significant operation, the agency conducted searches across 92 locations in five states, including Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha. These efforts follow the Assam government’s recommendation to address fraudulent activities that have defrauded numerous investors.
During the raids, the CBI seized a range of digital evidence, including 24 mobile phones, 18 desktops, 7 hard drives, and 11 laptops. These materials are expected to shed light on the operations of the accused and the extent of the financial misappropriation. Authorities believe the schemes primarily targeted individuals from economically vulnerable groups, exacerbating their financial hardships.
The Assam government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has pledged its full cooperation with the CBI to expedite the investigation. In October, the government issued an official notification for the probe and emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice for those affected. The state reiterated its determination to facilitate a swift and thorough investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The CBI’s efforts highlight its focus on tackling financial crimes and recovering defrauded funds. As the investigation progresses, further details are anticipated regarding the network of fraudulent activities and their impact on victims.
