Sikkim CM Inaugurates Remodeled BL House, Celebrating Cultural Heritage

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the newly remodeled Bhutia-Lepcha (BL) House at Tibet Road, Gangtok, on November 17, 2024.

The event, held at Manan Kendra, brought together political leaders, community members, and dignitaries to celebrate the restoration of this iconic cultural landmark.

The BL House, originally envisioned and constructed by former Chief Minister Nar Bahadur Bhandari over three decades ago, has long served as a hub for the Bhutia and Lepcha communities. CM Tamang emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving Sikkim’s cultural heritage and fostering unity among its diverse communities. He highlighted the ‘One Sikkim, One Family’ principle, underscoring the importance of inclusive development for all communities.

Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Lhonak Valley, the Sikkim government remains dedicated to progress and harmony. CM Tamang expressed gratitude to the resilient Sikkimese people for their unwavering support.

Education Minister K.N. Lepcha and Public Health Engineering Minister Sonam Lama also spoke at the event, praising the government’s efforts to safeguard the rights and traditions of Sikkim’s communities.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Sikkim’s special constitutional provisions under Article 371F and reiterated its efforts to bring the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, to Sikkim. He also highlighted the government’s transparent and inclusive approach, which has led to the successful renovation of the BL House.

CM Tamang urged the youth to embrace their heritage while pursuing education, entrepreneurship, and technology. He emphasized the importance of inclusive policies that preserve Sikkim’s unique identity and ensure equitable growth.
