Assam: Kokrajhar Hosts First National-Level Half Marathon, Promotes Peace and Sportsmanship

Assam: The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) marked a historic milestone as Kokrajhar hosted its inaugural national-level half marathon, themed Run for Peace with NCC, Peace City Kokrajhar. Jointly organized by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the BTC Sports and Welfare Department, the event celebrated unity and peace through the spirit of sports.

Held at Kokrajhar’s SAI Stadium, the marathon featured three race categories—21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers—for male and female athletes. Participants included 17 NCC units and prominent sports figures, underscoring the region’s growing emphasis on sportsmanship.

• Women’s Category: KM Sangeeta Pal (1st), Chandrakala Luitel (2nd), Pahi Keote (3rd)
• 5 km
• Men’s Category: Sukemalang Subas (1st), Amol Dev Nath (2nd), Hitesh Boro (3rd)
• Women’s Category: Sandhya Yadav (1st), Rehana Khatun (2nd), Deepika Munda (3rd)

Dignitaries, including Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, BTC Executive Member Daobaisa Boro, and ADG NCC NER Gagan Deep, attended the prize distribution ceremony. Minister Garlosa applauded the event’s success and emphasized its role in promoting Bodoland as a hub for sports and tourism.

The marathon also featured a prize pool of ₹15 lakh, further attracting participants and enhancing Kokrajhar’s appeal as a sports destination.

The NCC announced its commitment to establishing a new battalion in the region, signaling ongoing efforts to uplift the youth and reinforce Kokrajhar’s reputation as a center for peace and cultural harmony.
