Mont Pukhuri: A Winter Wonderland for Migratory Birds
Jamugurihat, Assam: As winter descends upon the region, the serene Mont Pukhuri in Barbhagia transforms into a breathtaking avian sanctuary. This expansive water body, spanning over twenty bighas, becomes a haven for thousands of migratory birds that flock here annually.
Among the diverse species that grace the pond are elegant northern pintails, majestic pelicans, playful wild ducks, stately greylag geese, and charming tufted ducks. These winged visitors add a vibrant touch to the serene landscape, particularly during the enchanting hours of dawn and dusk.
The mesmerizing sight of these birds gracefully gliding across the water’s surface has captivated the hearts of local residents and nature enthusiasts alike. The migratory birds typically arrive in early November and stay for approximately four to five months, departing in late March.
