Gaurav Gogoi Slams BJP Government Over Inaction in Manipur Crisis
Manipur: In a pointed critique, Congress MP from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi, has lashed out at the BJP-led central government for its failure to resolve the prolonged conflict in Manipur.
In a video message, Gogoi expressed profound disappointment, accusing the government of adopting a “step-motherly attitude” toward the northeastern state.
“It has been more than a year since violence erupted in Manipur, and yet Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to take decisive action,” said Gogoi. He lamented the ongoing ethnic clashes, which have claimed lives, displaced thousands, and pushed the state into a severe humanitarian crisis.
Gogoi directed sharp criticism at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, highlighting the ineffectiveness of numerous review meetings on the law-and-order situation. “Another meeting today will likely lead nowhere,” he remarked. “If Amit Shah, despite holding multiple reviews, has failed to make progress, what hope is there for this government to bring peace to Manipur?”
The Congress leader accused the government of downplaying the severity of the conflict. “In Delhi, they seem to treat Manipur as just a small state with minor community clashes. This dismissive mindset underscores their lack of understanding of the issue’s gravity,” Gogoi asserted.
He emphasized that this negligence has not only prolonged the suffering of the state’s people but has also deepened the crisis.
The violence in Manipur, rooted in long-standing tensions between two major communities, has persisted for over a year. The unrest has led to widespread displacement, disrupted the local economy, and created a prolonged humanitarian emergency.
Despite periodic interventions by the central and state governments, peace efforts have yielded little success. Critics, including Gogoi, have accused the BJP government of a lack of urgency and empathy in addressing the crisis.
Gogoi’s remarks echo the Congress party’s broader demands for inclusive dialogue, stronger accountability, and a comprehensive strategy to tackle the underlying issues fueling the conflict.
For the people of Manipur, the plea for decisive action remains unanswered, with hopes pinned on the central government to finally prioritize the state’s plight and bring lasting peace.
