Assam: Cachar Tightens Security Amid Escalating Violence in Manipur
Assam: In response to the rising violence in neighboring Manipur, the Cachar district administration has implemented robust security measures along the Assam-Manipur border.
The move follows a deadly operation by the CRPF that left 11 suspected Kuki militants dead and the grim discovery of six bodies, including women and children, in Manipur’s Jiribam district.
To prevent unrest from spilling over into Assam, Cachar police, in collaboration with Commando Battalions and Assam Police, have intensified surveillance across land and riverine routes. Regular patrols are being conducted to ensure stability and identify any potential threats in border areas.
Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta is personally overseeing the heightened security measures, conducting daily inspections along the border. Speaking to the press, he said, “In light of the volatile law and order situation in Jiribam, Manipur, we have enforced strict security protocols to prevent unauthorized crossings and counter any attempts to exploit the turmoil. Enhanced vigilance has been established along riverine areas, including the Jiri and Barak rivers, to ensure comprehensive border security.”
SP Mahatta also underscored directives from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Director General of Police GP Singh to take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt peace in Cachar. “Our focus remains on maintaining stability and protecting Cachar from the escalating chaos in Manipur,” he emphasized.
The situation remains tense as authorities continue to monitor developments in Manipur. Meanwhile, Cachar’s proactive steps aim to ensure that the district remains insulated from the ongoing unrest, offering residents a sense of security amid the crisis.
