Arunachal: AAPSU Files FIR Against Drishyamuni Chakma Over Alleged Forgery and Misrepresentation
Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has lodged a formal complaint against Drishyamuni Chakma, accusing him of cheating, forgery, and misrepresentation in connection with his bid to contest the 2024 state assembly elections from the 49 Diyun-Bordumsa Assembly Constituency.
The FIR, filed at the Itanagar police station on Monday, alleges that Chakma falsified documents to obtain permanent residency and register as a voter.
AAPSU General Secretary Ritum Tali, speaking during a press briefing, accused Chakma of fabricating documents to claim residency in Avoipur, leading to his inclusion in the electoral roll and the issuance of an Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) with the number UBV2587045. Tali stressed that such actions are illegal, as only Indian citizens are eligible for voter registration in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Drishyamuni Chakma, being a refugee and non-indigenous to Arunachal Pradesh, has violated the law by registering as an elector in the 49 Bordumsa-Diyun constituency,” said Tali. He added that AAPSU views the act as a serious criminal offense, demanding legal consequences under applicable statutes.
In response, Drishyamuni Chakma has denied the allegations, asserting his innocence and rejecting claims of any wrongdoing. The case has sparked significant debate over electoral eligibility and the rights of non-indigenous individuals in Arunachal Pradesh. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further.
