Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reaffirms Commitment to Child Rights on World Children’s Day

GUWAHATI: Marking World Children’s Day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the state government’s dedication to ensuring a safe, supportive environment for children to grow and excel. Observed globally under UNICEF’s initiative, the day celebrates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and underscores the universality of children’s rights.

“Child rights are human rights. They are non-negotiable and universal,” Sarma stated, reiterating the government’s commitment to fostering an atmosphere where children can thrive and achieve greatness.

The Assam government has implemented various policies aimed at improving children’s well-being. Initiatives include upgrading educational facilities, child care hospitals, and playgrounds to create a holistic developmental environment. The Nijut Moina Asoni campaign has actively cracked down on child marriages, while the Banikanta Kakati Award rewards meritorious students with two-wheelers to encourage academic excellence.

Additionally, the Assam Police’s Shishu Mitra Programme has been instrumental in raising awareness about child safety and rights, reflecting the government’s multi-faceted approach to safeguarding children.

Chief Minister Sarma also urged global stakeholders to prioritize children’s welfare as societies face evolving challenges and opportunities. “A better world for all children is possible,” he said, emphasizing the need to ensure that every child thrives and reaches their full potential in the years to come.
