Manipur MLA’s Residence Vandalized, Relief Materials Looted
Imphal: The mother of JD(U) MLA Kh Joykishan Singh has filed a complaint with the Imphal Police Station, alleging that a mob vandalized the legislator’s residence in West Imphal’s Thangmeiband area on November 16, making off with Rs 18 lakh in cash and jewelry worth Rs 1.5 crore.
The attack, which lasted for about two hours, also destroyed relief materials meant for internally displaced people, including vegetables, winter clothes, and essential items.
According to Sanayai, a volunteer managing a nearby relief camp, the mob looted everything, including lockers, electronics, furniture, and seven gas cylinders. Documents of displaced people were also destroyed, and one volunteer was injured in the violence. The MLA was in Delhi at the time of the attack, receiving medical treatment for a family member.
This incident is part of a larger pattern of violence in Manipur, which has resulted in over 220 deaths and thousands displaced since May last year. The clashes between the Meitei community and Kuki-Zo groups escalated after three women and three children from the Meitei community went missing from a relief camp in Jiribam district.
