Arunachal: BRUTE 4.0 Marathon Kicks Off in Basar, Spotlighting Anti-Drug Awareness and Tourism
Basar, Arunachal Pradesh – The fourth edition of the Basar Running Ultra-Trail Experience (BRUTE 4.0) was flagged off today at Gori Field, with over 200 participants, including 9 international runners, taking part in this trailblazing event aimed at combating drug abuse and promoting Arunachal Pradesh’s tourism potential.
The marathon was inaugurated by Sports and Rural Development Minister Kento Jini, alongside Basar MLA Jini Nyabi Dirchi, in a vibrant ceremony. Participants, representing diverse regions, prepared for the race with a yoga session, setting the tone for the day’s physically demanding events.
BRUTE 4.0, organized by the Galo Community NGO Gumin Rvgo Kwlaju (GRK), features four trail categories—5 km, 10 km, 30 km, and 60 km—registered with the International Trail Running Experience (ITR). Beyond fitness, the event’s goals include raising awareness about drug abuse and showcasing the natural and cultural wealth of the region.
Since its inception in 2021, the BRUTE marathon has steadily gained prominence, drawing the attention of runners, cultural advocates, and eco-tourism promoters eager to highlight Basar’s potential as a tourism hotspot.
Speaking at the event, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing underlined the significance of youth health, advocating daily physical activity as a cornerstone of nation-building. He praised BRUTE’s role in driving tourism and boosting the local economy, particularly in Leparada district.
Sports Minister Kento Jini encouraged youth to embrace marathon running as a lifestyle choice, citing its fitness benefits and anti-aging effects. He also expressed aspirations to establish the event as a permanent feature on the state’s sports calendar.
MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi echoed these sentiments, urging young people to stay away from drugs and tobacco products, promoting a drug-free and healthy lifestyle instead.
Organizing secretary Nyali Basar emphasized the dual mission of BRUTE 4.0: to tackle drug abuse through awareness campaigns and to advocate for environmental conservation. “This event is not just about running; it’s about protecting our future—both through healthy living and safeguarding our environment,” he remarked.
With its growing popularity and meaningful purpose, BRUTE 4.0 continues to leave an indelible mark on Arunachal Pradesh, positioning Basar as a beacon for sports tourism and social change.
