Two More Arrested for Vandalism and Arson in Manipur, Total Reaches 34

Imphal: Manipur police have arrested two additional individuals in connection with the vandalism and arson at the residences of legislators in Imphal Valley during the unrest on November 16. This brings the total number of arrests linked to the incidents to 34, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Authorities are actively investigating the attacks, examining evidence, and searching for more suspects involved in the targeted acts of arson. Police teams are also conducting sweeps in various localities of Imphal Valley to identify and apprehend others connected to the violence.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has strongly condemned the attacks on the homes of ministers and MLAs, describing the incidents as disgraceful. While acknowledging the right of citizens to protest peacefully against the recent killings of civilians, the Chief Minister denounced the violent actions carried out under the pretext of democratic agitation.

“Those who are genuinely protesting the killings of innocent people are justified, and we stand with their democratic movement. But under the guise of such protests, some groups have resorted to looting and arson, targeting ministers’ homes and properties,” CM Singh stated.

The government has launched stringent legal action against the perpetrators. Singh revealed that the authorities have identified many of those responsible using CCTV footage. “It is shameful that such acts are happening in Manipur. Looting and destruction in the name of agitation cannot be tolerated. We will ensure legal action is taken,” he affirmed.

The incidents on November 16 occurred amid ongoing tensions in the state, which have seen a resurgence of violence following the discovery of civilian casualties. The government remains committed to addressing the unrest while upholding the rule of law.
