Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Felicitates Newly Elected BJP Legislators After By-Poll Sweep

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated the victories of the BJP and its allies in the recent assembly by-elections, felicitating three newly elected BJP legislators during a ceremony on Sunday, November 24.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) swept all five constituencies where by-polls were held, solidifying its dominance in the state.

BJP candidate Ghatowal emerged victorious in the Behali constituency, while Nirmal Kumar Brahma of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) claimed the Sidli seat. Asom Gana Parishad’s (AGP) Diptimoyee Choudhury secured a decisive win in Bongaigaon. In addition, BJP candidates Diplu Ranjan Sarma and Nihar Ranjan Das clinched wins in Samaguri and Dholai, respectively.

The by-elections were part of a nationwide electoral process involving 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies across 15 states. Assam’s results underscore the continued strength of the BJP-led coalition in the region, even as high-stakes contests unfolded in other states, including Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.

Chief Minister Sarma used the occasion to outline the BJP’s strategic plans for the 2026 Assam assembly elections, with a focus on consolidating gains in constituencies with significant minority populations. The party’s leadership emphasized its commitment to fostering development and maintaining its robust electoral momentum in the state.

The victories highlight the BJP’s growing footprint in Assam, buoyed by its alliance with UPPL and AGP, as it continues to fortify its position ahead of future political battles.
