Congress MP Hibi Eden Demands Urgent Action on Manipur Crisis, Calls for Lok Sabha Debate
New Delhi: Congress MP Hibi Eden has escalated his demand for urgent government intervention in the ongoing Manipur crisis by moving an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The motion seeks a comprehensive discussion on the deteriorating law and order situation, the widespread violence, and the alleged administrative failures in the state.
In his notice to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Eden highlighted the alarming rise in violence, mass displacement, and destruction of property. He expressed deep concern over the role of armed groups and the circulation of inflammatory content, which has further exacerbated communal tensions.
The recent incidents of sexual violence, including the horrific case of women being paraded naked, have sparked national outrage and prompted Supreme Court intervention. The apex court has directed a thorough investigation into the matter and called for judicial oversight.
The humanitarian crisis in Manipur continues to worsen, with thousands of people displaced and struggling to access basic necessities like food and shelter. Eden’s motion underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive response to address the root causes of the conflict and restore peace and harmony to the state.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of three new cases related to the violence in Jiribam and other areas. The central government’s decision to transfer the cases to the NIA reflects the gravity of the situation and the potential involvement of larger conspiracies.
