Assam’s Kaziranga National Park: A Fortress Against Poaching

Guwahati, Assam: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has emerged as a formidable bastion against poaching, thanks to the stringent measures implemented by the Assam government.

Field Director Sonali Ghosh attributed this success to the government’s unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation. “The government has placed a premium on combating poaching in Kaziranga and other rhino-rich areas,” she stated.

Ghosh highlighted the collaborative efforts between the police intelligence and forest departments, which have proven to be a game-changer. “The synergy between these agencies has been instrumental in achieving a zero rhino poaching year in 2022,” she said.

She further emphasized that the proactive management strategies employed by the park authorities have played a crucial role in preventing poaching attempts.

To strengthen its conservation efforts, the state government recruited over 2,500 personnel for frontline duties in 2022-23. This significant boost in manpower has enhanced surveillance and patrolling activities within the park.

Ghosh described the government’s approach as “proactive and positive,” underscoring its dedication to safeguarding the rich biodiversity of Kaziranga National Park.
