Mizoram Police Seize Methamphetamine Worth Rs. 380.757 Crore, Arrest Myanmar National
Aizawl: In a late-night operation on Wednesday, Mizoram Police seized 29.289 kilograms of methamphetamine worth Rs. 380.757 crore in the local market and arrested a Myanmar national.
The seizure was made at Zemabawk locality in Aizawl, with the contraband discovered concealed within a vehicle.
Acting on intelligence, a joint team comprising Mizoram Police, CID (SB), and Special Narcotics PS staff intercepted a Scorpio vehicle (registration number MZ01 AB 5750) traveling from Zokhawthar. Upon inspection, the team recovered 30 packets of methamphetamine hidden in a false compartment beneath the middle and rear-row seats of the vehicle.
The accused, identified as 30-year-old Tlangthanmawia from Tahan, E-Group, Myanmar, was apprehended at Tawngtai Mual in Zemabawk.
A case has been registered under Special Narcotic PS No.47/24, dated November 28, 2024, invoking sections 22(c)/25 of the NDPS Act, 1985, along with section 14 A of the Foreigners Act. Further investigations are underway to trace the backward and forward linkages of the drug network.
The operation highlights Mizoram Police’s continued efforts to combat cross-border drug trafficking, a significant issue in the region due to its proximity to Myanmar.
