Death Toll in Sikkim Bus Accident Rises to Seven
Gangtok: The death toll in the tragic bus accident that occurred on November 30th near Atal Setu in Rangpo, Sikkim, has climbed to seven. The latest victim, Jaimuddin Ansari, a construction worker from West Bengal, succumbed to his injuries on December 1st while undergoing treatment at STNM Hospital in Gangtok.
The accident, which involved a private bus traveling from Siliguri to Gangtok, resulted in a horrifying scene as the vehicle veered off NH-10 and plunged into the Teesta River. The incident claimed five lives immediately, with two more succumbing to their injuries shortly after.
Among the deceased are Ikbal Hassan from Kolkata, Ajay Tamang from Jaldakha, Indrajit Singh from Siliguri, Gopal Prasad from Gangtok, Julu Kumari from Rangpo, and the unidentified victim.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. The state government has assured free medical treatment for all injured individuals in Sikkim’s hospitals.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to STNM Hospital for post-mortem examination.
