Bhaichung Bhutia Expresses Concern Over Manipur Violence, Calls for Peaceful Resolution
Imphal: Former Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhutia has expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Manipur, describing the situation as “very unfortunate” and painful for the people of the northeastern region.
Bhutia, a prominent figure from the Northeast, emphasized the emotional toll of the unrest, stating, “It hurts us to see this turmoil in such a beautiful state with immense tourism potential. We hope and pray for peace to return.”
Urging both the state and central governments to collaborate with local communities, Bhutia stressed the urgency of restoring stability. “Bringing peace and stability is the most important priority for the region’s future,” he said, echoing a broader call for unity and healing in the face of the crisis.
In a related statement, Bhutia also condemned the escalating violence against minorities in Bangladesh, including the recent arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das. He urged the Bangladesh government to act swiftly to address the issue. “It is very unfortunate, especially the attacks on religious leaders. The Bangladesh government should take immediate action and ensure the safety of minorities,” Bhutia remarked.
The football legend’s appeal highlights the need for regional harmony and greater efforts to protect vulnerable communities amid rising tensions.
