Manipur Cracks Down on Poppy Cultivation: 8.6 Acres Destroyed in Senapati Operation

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced the successful eradication of approximately 8.6 acres of poppy cultivation in the Makuilongdi forest area under Senapati Police Station.

The operation, conducted by a joint team comprising the Senapati Forest Department, Executive Magistrate, and Senapati Police led by SDPO Senapati, targeted poppy fields in the flowering stage.

Key Highlights:
• The operation was part of Manipur’s ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign.
• A case has been registered at Senapati Police Station for further investigation.
• The destroyed poppy plants were found in the early flowering stage.

CM Biren Singh praised the coordinated efforts, emphasizing the adverse impact of such illicit activities on the environment and social stability. Sharing the update on his official X handle, he reiterated the state’s commitment to tackling drug-related challenges and conserving the environment.

This marks another significant step in the state government’s mission to curb illegal drug cultivation and trade, aiming to protect Manipur’s ecological and social integrity.
