Manipur Police Busts Poppy Cultivation, Seizes Arms
Imphal: In a significant operation against illegal poppy cultivation, Manipur Police arrested four individuals in the Khamason range of Ukhrul district on the night of December 6-7.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police team launched an operation and discovered approximately 30 acres of land under poppy cultivation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Peimi Ramsak (27), Lightson Shimrah (49), Kapangkhui Khashim, and Yatei SV (22). Additionally, the police seized one air gun and two knives from the accused.
Continuing their efforts, on December 7, a joint team comprising Manipur Police, Forest Department, and Executive Magistrate conducted a poppy destruction drive in Mao Pungdong under Mao Police Station.
The team successfully destroyed one acre of poppy plantation and initiated further legal action against the village chairman of the area.
In another operation, security forces deployed in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from L. Jangnomphai in Kangpokpi district. The recovered items include one 7.62 mm sniper rifle, three pistols, one .303 bolt action rifle, five 36 hand grenades, five Stardyne 90 explosives, four electric detonators, various types of ammunition, and other tactical gear.
