Nagaland Celebrates Christmas Amidst Hornbill Festival
Kohima: In a unique blend of tradition and faith, the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) organized the first-ever Advent Christmas devotional service at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama on December 8, 2023. The event coincided with the 25th edition of the renowned Hornbill Festival, creating a festive atmosphere for both locals and tourists.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio graced the occasion, extending his warm wishes and acknowledging the significance of the event. He highlighted the importance of unity, tolerance, and forgiveness, especially during the festive season. Rio also emphasized the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ and His message of hope, peace, and salvation.
He delved into the deeper connection between spirituality, indigenous heritage, and political identity, emphasizing the role of the BEFR Act and Article 371A in preserving Naga identity and culture.
The main speaker, Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, Advisor of NJCF, delivered a powerful Christmas message, reminding the gathering of the true essence of the season. He emphasized the need to prioritize spiritual worship and to live out Christian faith by being a light and salt to the world.
The Advent Christmas Service concluded with a joyous rendition of “Joy to the World,” leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
