Mizoram: Border Guards Seize Contraband Worth Rs 12.15 Lakh

In a joint operation, the Land Customs Station in Mizoram and the Assam Rifles successfully thwarted a cross-border smuggling attempt in Zokhawthar. Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the Assam Rifles conducted an area domination patrol, leading to the recovery of a significant amount of contraband on Saturday.

The seized items included 136 foreign-origin e-cigarettes, numerous cartons of foreign-origin cigarettes, cases of foreign-origin beer, and bottles of foreign-origin liquor. The total estimated value of the contraband is Rs 12.15 lakh.

The recovered items have been handed over to the Land Customs Station, Zokhawthar, for further investigation and legal action.

This successful operation highlights the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles to secure the Indo-Myanmar border and combat smuggling activities.

It’s worth noting that this seizure comes shortly after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested three individuals from Mizoram for their involvement in a trans-border arms and ammunition trafficking syndicate.
