Assam Cabinet Reshuffled: New Portfolios for Enhanced Governance

In a significant move to optimize governance and drive development, the Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced a comprehensive reshuffle of ministerial portfolios. The reallocation of departments aims to streamline administration and accelerate progress across key sectors.

Key highlights of the reshuffle include:

  • Prasanta Phukan taking charge of Power, Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship, Medical Education and Research, and Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
  • Kaushik Rai leading Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Mines and Minerals, and Barak Valley Development.
  • Krishnendu Paul overseeing Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Fisheries, and Public Works (Roads).
  • Rupesh Gowala managing Labour Welfare, Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare, and Home (Prisons, Home Guards, and Civil Defense).

Senior ministers have also been assigned key portfolios:

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retains Home, Personnel, and Public Works (Buildings and Highways).
  • Ranjeet Kumar Dass takes charge of Panchayat and Rural Development, Judicial, and Tourism.
  • Atul Bora leads Agriculture, Excise, and Border Protection and Development.
  • Keshab Mahanta oversees Revenue and Disaster Management, Information Technology, and Science, Technology and Climate Change.
  • Urkhao Gwra Brahma heads Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture, Soil Conservation, and Welfare of Bodoland.

Other ministers have been assigned critical departments to ensure balanced development across sectors.

This strategic reshuffle is expected to address pressing challenges and foster comprehensive growth in Assam, particularly in healthcare, education, rural development, infrastructure, and social welfare.
