Mizoram: Tuberculosis Claims 147 Lives This Year

A grim picture of tuberculosis (TB) in Mizoram has emerged, with 147 individuals succumbing to the disease since January 2023. This alarming figure was revealed at the launch of a 100-day TB elimination program.

The state health department reported that 2,164 people have been diagnosed with TB from 24,017 samples tested during the year. While 80% of the infected patients have undergone successful treatment, the loss of 147 lives underscores the severity of the issue.

Last year, the state recorded 108 TB-related deaths. To combat this persistent health challenge, the government has initiated a comprehensive 100-day elimination program. State Minister B Lalchhanzova emphasized the critical role of community involvement, including churches and NGOs, in achieving the program’s goals. He urged the public to support the government’s efforts to eradicate TB from the state.
