Assam CM Draws Parallel with Israel, Warns of Continuing Threat

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday urged the state to learn from Israel’s resilience, highlighting the need to safeguard the state’s identity and economic interests.

Speaking at a program commemorating ‘Swahid Diwas,’ Sarma emphasized the historical challenges faced by Assam, sharing borders with Bangladesh, Myanmar, and West Bengal. He expressed concern over the demographic changes in several districts, where the Assamese population has become a minority.

Drawing parallels with Israel, Sarma highlighted the importance of leveraging knowledge, science, and technology to ensure the state’s survival, even in the face of adversity.

He also addressed the ongoing threat to the Assamese identity, despite the Assam Accord. Sarma criticized the Congress party for its role in the erosion of land rights and the influx of outsiders. He urged the youth to focus on economic self-reliance and to actively participate in the state’s development.

The Chief Minister further outlined the government’s efforts to safeguard the state’s cultural and economic identity. This includes initiatives like establishing medical colleges and universities in every district and constructing bridges over the Brahmaputra.

Sarma concluded by emphasizing the need for a shift from traditional protest methods to a focus on economic empowerment and self-reliance. He called upon the people of Assam to work together to secure their future and protect their identity.
