Final Accused Arrested in Guwahati Gang Rape Case
Guwahati: The Guwahati Police have made a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the horrific gang rape incident. Krishna Barman, the last absconding accused, was apprehended in Golokganj, Dhubri district. This arrest follows the detention of prime accused Robin Das on December 13th, bringing the total number of individuals in custody to nine.
The incident, which occurred in a secluded area near a Durga Temple in Boragaon, came to light after a disturbing video of the crime circulated among locals. A local journalist promptly reported the video to Garchuk Police Station at 2:30 AM.
Swift action by police officers, including Inspector Mayurjit Gogoi and Sub-Inspector Kajal Dutta, led to overnight search operations that resulted in the arrest of seven suspects earlier that day. The arrested individuals include Kuldeep Nath, Bijoy Rabha, Pinku Das, Gagan Das, Saurav Boro, Mrinal Rabha, and Dipankar Mukhiya.
Initial investigations suggest that the victim was lured to the secluded location by an acquaintance. Authorities are actively working to identify the victim and apprehend the remaining absconding suspect. The video evidence is being meticulously analyzed to gather crucial information for the investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and demands for stringent punishment for the perpetrators. This case underscores the urgent need for systemic changes to prevent crimes against women and ensure their safety.
