Border Fence Construction Commences in Manipur Amid Opposition

Imphal: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) of India has initiated the construction of a border fence along the India-Myanmar border in the vicinity of Moreh, Tengnoupal district, Manipur. This project, undertaken under Project Sewak, is intended to bolster security and vigilance within the region.

However, the establishment of this border fencing along the international boundary has met with opposition from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) representing the Kuki-Zo community in Tengnoupal district.

Earlier, the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Manipur unit, also voiced strong opposition to the proposed construction of a border fence between India and Myanmar in areas populated by the Naga community. The organization strongly advocated for the correction of the boundary in accordance with traditional demarcations prior to the commencement of any fencing work.
