Meghalaya: Warjri Clan Hosts Annual General Council Meeting, Honours Achievements and Elects New Leadership

Pyndengumiong, Mairang– The Warjri clan gathered in large numbers for its Annual General Council meeting held at Pyndengumiong, Mairang, in the Eastern West Khasi Hills District. The event celebrated the clan’s rich cultural heritage, recognized outstanding achievements by its members, and outlined a roadmap for preserving its matrilineal traditions.

The meeting spotlighted exceptional accomplishments by clan members in diverse fields. Renowned singer Maxter Warjri was celebrated for his contributions to music, while Dr. Miracle Warjri was lauded for earning her PhD in Chemistry.

Adventurer Riffiness Warjri received accolades for scaling Mount Abi Gabin in the Himalayas, and martial artist Obinas Warjri was honoured for winning a silver medal at the World Muay Boran Championship during the 5th International and Thai Martial Arts Games. Additionally, Ms. Sunita Warjri and Amos Warjri were recognized for their achievements in music.

A key focus of the gathering was safeguarding the Warjri clan’s cultural identity, particularly its matrilineal system. Members discussed strategies to preserve these traditions while adapting them to address modern challenges. The council reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a strong sense of unity and pride among clan members.

The meeting saw the election of a new team of office bearers, reflecting a dynamic and inclusive approach to leadership. Former Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri was elected as President, with Prosper Warjri and Raphael Warjri serving as Vice Presidents.

  • Auditor: Jeanita Warjri

The executive team also featured representatives from units across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, with Rudy Warjri and George Arthur Warjri named as Advisors.

The council concluded with a collective pledge to celebrate achievements, uphold the Warjri clan’s heritage, and ensure progressive leadership. The event reinforced the clan’s unity and its dedication to cultural preservation, setting the stage for continued growth and recognition.
